Back to Work...

So, I returned to work yesterday after being off for 3 months. After 3 months off, I had pretty much decided that I didn't ever want to return to work again, but I got over it and decided to think positively about the whole situation. Everything went as well as it could go...I was able to get Maya, Maks and myself ready in record time and without any major meltdowns. I dropped Maya off at preschool and Maks off at Miss Amber's house and still had plenty of time before my first patient. I did shed a few tears before and after dropping off Maks, but that was to be expected. During lunch, I was even able to go see Maks (he is being watched close to my workplace) and feed him.

That is when things got interesting. Maks is being breastfed, so I have to "do my thing" (that's how they refer to it at work) at work. Well, I have an office in the clinic that I use while "doing my thing". It has one of those doors that you lock and then when you open the door, it should unlock. Well, apparently it doesn't. One of my co-workers decided to shut the door when working with a patient and when I attempted to get back into my office to "do my thing", the door was locked and no one was in there. You might think that this is not a big deal because there must be a key in the building. Oh yes, there was a key in the building and it was locked in a file cabinet and the only person that had the key worked in another office an hour away. Not only could I not "do my thing", but my purse and more importantly my car keys were in this office. I'm not normally the crazy, panicky kind of person, but I started to get a little worried at this point. Then I had a brilliant idea....I can just go over and feed Maks because I don't have any more patients coming in today. Then I had another thought...No, I can't....because my freakin' keys are locked in my office. To make a long story short, my boss (who had the keys) left work early and brought them to me later that afternoon and by the time he got there, I was really ready to "do my thing"!!

So, then I leave work and race off to get Maks. I headed toward the babysitter's house and upon seeing a freakin' long line of traffic I realize that I had gone the wrong way. Now it's not normally the wrong way, but they are doing construction in this area and have taken a four lane road down to one lane and that doesn't work well at 5 pm! I had intended to go around this area and was now stuck in the middle of a long line of non-moving traffic. I finally was able to turn around and get out of the mess and what should have taken me 6 or 7 minutes took about 30 minutes. I finally got my little man and headed home.

Lesson of the day...pay attention and make sure you have key before you lock the door!!!

  1. Ugh...I hate days like that! So glad you were able to "do your thing" after all that drama! I gotta admit..I am not looking forward to that part of being a new mom. It's never as bad when I'm doing it as it is anticipating it though. Especially the first few days after giving birth...sigh! Glad the transition back to work is going alright! More pictures please!!!
